An area resident wants the rebuilt 15th Street Bridge to be named for General Anthony R. Jones when it’s complete.

Mike McKittrick told the Washington Rotary Club on Wednesday that he’s petitioned the city council to name the bridge after the 1966 WC Graduate who is a two star General.  McKittrick says local students need to know about the man who helped to found the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment known as the Night Stalkers.  He also served in the Balkans, Desert Shield, and was the first Chief of Staff for the US Army in Europe not to be a West Point Grad.

The rebuilding of the bridge is still in the planning stages and financing is still being worked out.

The Washington Times Herald   http://www.washtimesherald.com/      quoted Mayor Joe Wellman as saying it might be easier to name a street after Jones.  He said renaming the bridge would need CSX Railroad approval. Wellman says the city will honor Jones in some way in the future.
