Todd Church sworn in as Washington Police Chief

Former Assistant Chief moves into the Chief’s chair, meanwhile, Trent McWilliams has been named the new Assistant Police Chief.

 

 

 

 

 

Washington Mayor Joe Wellman swore in Todd Church as the new police chief and Trent McWilliams as the new assistant chief at last night’s city council meeting.  Church was assistant chief under Mike Healy who retired this month.

Church has been with the department since 1991 holding every rank.  He has also served as a D.A.R.E. officer and canine officer for the department.  He is an Honors graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Chief Church has also served 22 years in the military, serving in the Marine Corps for 4 years active duty, Army National Guard for 9 years and in the Army Reserves since 2006.  He currently holds the rank of Sergeant First Class with a current duty position of Senior Drill Sergeant.

Assistant Chief McWilliams has been on the force for 15 years and has been a detective for the past 8 years.  He is certified as a Child First Finding Words interviewer and in REID Interviewing Techniques.  He is a certified Voice Stress Analysis examiner.  McWilliams graduated from the Southern Police Institute Homicide School at the University of Louisville and earned an AS degree from Vincennes University in Social Science.
