New fish size limits for Dogwood Lake

Area fishermen are advised that the size limit on black bass at Dogwood Lake in Daviess County is changing from a 15 inch limit to a 14 inch limit.

The lake is located at the Glendale Fish and Wildlife Area.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the new 14 inch limit will align with statewide bass regulations and allows for improved bass growth.

The 15 inch limit began in 1998 to maintain a population of fast growing bass.  The DNR says that based on decades of bass surveys and tournament monitoring, the bass population growth has slowed.  The bass harvest has also declined in recent years.

In addition the DNR has announced that a  9-inch minimum size limit for crappie (sounds like croppy)  is now in effect at Dogwood Lake.

Experts say that a 9-inch minimum size limit would increase the quality of crappie fishing at the lake.

The DNR says that crappie can reach the 9-inch minimum size limit between ages 2 and 3.
