County Treasurer announces 2016 campaign

Daviess County Treasurer Elaine Wellman has filed to run in the 2016 general election.
Wellman was elected by the local Republican party in 2013 to fill out the unexpired term of the late Martin Mumaw who passed away while in office.  She is seeking her first full term in office on the ballot.
In her announcement she says her experience with finances, budgets and investments and the county and city levels has assisted her in her duties.  Wellman previously serviced as Washington’s City Clerk-Treasurer.
While working for the city she received certifications as Certified Municipal Clerk and Indiana Accredited Clerk.  She holds accounting degrees from Vincennes University and was named Outstanding Accounting Student.
During her first three years in office, Wellman has increased the annual interest earnings on county funds by continually monitoring investments and rates, and reduced the fee taxpayers pay for online payments by seeking lower-cost vendors.  She increased options for taxpayers by offering debit and e-check capabilities to the office.  Looking forward, Wellman’s goals are to continue to watch costs and further increase earnings on county funds by  monitoring investment rates and safe investments.
