James N. Chapman, 92, passed into eternal slumber with his loving family by his side on Thursday.

James was born Feb. 27, 1923, to John Neal Chapman and Donna (Stropes) Kellog. He was a graduate of Glendale High School and went to serve his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. James married Donetta M. Webber on Nov.17, 1945. James retired after 42 years of employment with Daviess-Martin County R.E.M.C. He was also a 69-year member of the Glendale Masonic Lodge 461, served for eight years on the Washington Community School Board, and was a faithful member of Hudsonville United Methodist Church.

James is survived by his sons Terry (Anna Lou) Chapman, Kevin (Jamie) Chapman; daughter Ann (Mark) Hoevel; grandchildren Jami (Bryan) Miller, Brandon (Julie) Chapman, Brandy (Ryan) Harner, Aaron (Krista) Hoevel, Holly (Adam) Robinson; great-grandchildren Ella Grace Miller, John Chapman, Madison Chapman, Sophia Hoevel, Lydia Hoevel, Nolan Robinson; sister-in-law Patty Hopewell; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents; wife Donetta M. Chapman; stepmother Marguerite Chapman; son James Timothy Chapman; and a sister, Pat Champlin.

A funeral service for James Chapman will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Hudsonville United Methodist Church, with a visitation an hour prior to service also at the church. A visitation will be at Gill Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Masonic Rites held at 4 p.m. Military graveside rites will be held at Bethel Cemetery following the funeral service.
