A former Mayor from southern Indiana is on leave from his current job with the city after being charged with drug possession.

Joe Klumpp, former Mayor of Bedford and current Director of the Bedford Housing Authority, has been placed on administrative leave by current Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis.

Klumpp, 56, was arrested Sept. 17 after a Johnson Co. sheriff’s deputy found drugs and drug paraphernalia in his car during a traffic stop. The ex-mayor was charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

His initial hearing is set for Wednesday, Dec. 5 in Greenwood City Court.
