President Trump visits Evansville Thursday night to try to boost the Senate campaign of Republican Mike Braun.
Braun’s challenge to Democratic incumbent Joe Donnelly is among the races that will determine control of the Senate. I-P-F-W political scientist Andy Downs says in some states, a Trump visit would help Democrats more than Republicans. But while Trump isn’t as popular in Indiana as when he won the state by 20 points in 2016, Downs says Trump is still popular here. And he notes a presidential visit carries some concrete benefits.
The rally at the Ford Center is Trump’s second Indiana visit this year. He came to Elkhart to endorse Braun two days after Braun won the nomination in the May primary. He’s scheduled to talk up Braun again and highlight strong economic growth.
Trump last visited Evansville during his presidential campaign in 2016.
