15th Street Bridge Project on schedule

“It will be the nicest street in Washington.”

That was the comment from Daviess County Highway Supervisor Phil Cornelius to the Daviess County Commissioners Tuesday.  He was referring to 15th Street as he gave an update on the 15th Street Project.  He said the project is still on schedule to be completed and open by December 7th.   Cornelius says the bridge will soon be taken off the list of the county’s “functionally deficient” bridges as described by the state.   Of the 126 bridges in the county only 3 have that criteria and soon there’ll only be 2.  The others are the overhead bridge in Montgomery and the bridge on Fox Road.

Cornelius says neighboring counties have over 10 bridges deemed functionally deficient by the state.

Also at the meeting, the commissioners accepted a recommendation from Cornelius to purchase a used radio tower  for $3500 and also to pay $2400 to get it taken down from its current site. The plan is to use the tower in the southeast part of the county to improve radio communications for the highway and other departments.
