Democrats have a candidate for Auditor

Democrats have completed their statewide ticket for the November election.

Former Marion City Council president Joselyn Whitticker is running for auditor. She’s expected to be unopposed at the state Democratic convention in two weeks.

Whitticker’s background is in education — she was a teacher in Evansville and a principal in Fort Wayne and Marion before retiring to open a curriculum consulting firm. Whitticker says while she’d be a “novice” in the office itself, she has experience reading and preparing budgets as a principal, and is running to serve as a watchdog for citizens and a counterbalance to what currently is an all-Republican state government.

Whitticker will face Republican incumbent Tera Klutz, who’s facing voters for the first time. She was appointed to the job after Suzanne Crouch was elected lieutenant governor.

Democrats had already announced the candidacies of Valparaiso attorney Jim Harper for secretary of state and former East Chicago Representative John Aguilera for treasurer. The filing deadline isn’t till Friday, but all three are expected to be unopposed at the convention.
