State Police say a knife-wielding southwestern Indiana man fatally shot by officers made a 911 call to spark the confrontation.
Police say 58-year-old Marshall Coleman of Boonville died after being shot by one of two Boonville police officers he approached while ignoring orders to drop his knives. The other officer’s stun gun hadn’t stopped Coleman.
Detectives say the 911 call reporting a man with two large knives threatening people at an apartment complex where Coleman resided came from his cellphone. They believe he made the call to initiate a confrontation with police. They say that when officers arrived on the scene, they didn’t see anyone else outside and no other tenants reported being threatened or injured by Coleman.
The two officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave
