Washington School Board met Thursday

The Washington Community School Board passed several resolutions Thursday night dealing with a 2006 Bond Refund Amendment.

The bonds are from the work done at the Junior/Senior High School in ’06.

School Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach says the action is a refunding of the bond and extends the loan 1 to 2 years or 2 to 4 payments.  He says it’s a chance to put some money in the coffers for capital projects.  Money that has been lost due to property tax caps enacted nearly 8 years ago.

A public hearing on the issue will be held at the next board meeting in May.  At that time exact costs and savings figures should be available.

SCHOOL BOARD/HANDBOOK

The Washington Community School Board voted on some changes to the school handbook at Thursday’s meeting.

Some of what was updated was the policy dealing with cell phones.  Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach says it’s all part of getting all levels of schools from elementary, to junior high to high school…on the same page…

Changes in the handbook included a policy that students can have cell phones on their person but not out and in use, unless they are being used for educational purposes and that’s at the teacher’s discretion.
