Butler will try for its third win in a row Friday evening when the Bulldogs face St. John’s in Queens, New York. The Dawgs beat 18th-ranked Marquette Saturday, and rallied to beat DePaul Tuesday night. Butler is 13-13 on the season and 6-9 in the Big East. The Red Storm defeated Butler 75-72 earlier this month at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Friday night’s matchup was originally scheduled for December 23rd, but was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the St. John’s program at the time. The Johnnies are 14-11 overall and 6-8 in conference play. St. John’s is favored by nine, with tip off at 5 p.m. Eastern Friday. After the game, Butler will have a quick turnaround, as they face 8th-ranked Providence Sunday at home.
The field for Sunday’s Daytona 500 is set. Brad Keselowski and Chris Buescher of RFK Racing swept the Duel qualifying races Thursday night and will start third and fourth, respectively, in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series season opener. Keselowski joined the former Roush-Fenway Racing in the offseason as part-owner to form RFK Racing. The front row will consist of polesitter Kyle Larson and his teammate Alex Bowman. The Hendrick Motorsports duo earned their front row starting spots in Wednesday night’s single-car qualifying. Former Formula 1 World Champion and 1995 Indianapolis 500 winner Jacques Villeneuve qualified for his first Daytona 500 Wednesday night. The 50-year-old was the fastest of the six cars not locked into the race. J.J. Yeley and Timmy Hill were the two drivers who did not qualify. The Daytona 500 goes green Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
