Washington Community Schools, in order to comply with the governor’s new order, will extend their mask mandate until the order ends on September 30, 2021.
They say the extension is to reduce the number of students who are missing classroom instruction and extra-curricular activities due to being quarantined.
Governor Holcomb recently signed Executive Order 24-21 that says if masks are consistently and correctly worn, close contacts (within 3 feet for 15 minutes or longer in the classroom setting) will not need to be quarantined and may continue to stay in school as long as they have no symptoms.
The order also says when masks are not worn, close contacts (within 6 ft. for 15 minutes or longer) will need to quarantine for 10 days.
WCS said in a press release the collective efforts of everyone will allow the continuation of in-person instruction while complying with Indiana Statute and Governor Holcomb’s Executive Orders.
