
The Washington Hatchet Baseball team claimed the Tom Miles Invitational Trophy on Saturday winning the championship over Bloomington North in big fashion 12 to nothing. Trey Reed pitched the shut out, as they Hatchet bats dominated the game. Washington advanced to the championship by beating Shakamak earlier in the day 7 to 6.
The Barr Reeve Vikings topped White River Valley 6 to 1 on Saturday completing a weekend sweep after defeating North Knox Friday night 7 to 3.
North Daviess topped Brown County 11 to 2 on Saturday. The Cougars are scheduled to face Linton tonight at home weather permitting.
IN Softball, the Lady Vikings got a huge win over 2nd ranked Loogootee Saturday morning 4 to 1. Grace Butcher got the win striking out 11 and Emma Davis had a double and Brooklyn Jones had 2 RBI’s to lead the Barr Reeve offense.
The Washington girls tennis team claimed the PAC Conference title on Friday defeating South Spencer. The Hatchets are a perfect 19 and 0 and went unbeaten in conference play. The Tennis Sectionals begin at Vincennes on Wednesday.
The Hatchet boys Golf Team finished first in the PAC tournament over the weekend. Dom DePass was medalist with a 73 and Zach Gray finished third. Simon Parsons tied for fifth. DePass and Gray were named all conference. Gibson Southern finished second and Forest Park was third.
The Barr Reeve Golf team also captured their first ever Blue Chip Conference Golf title. Sam Emmons was the individual champion and medalist at Country Oaks.
After Saturday’s GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, the focus turns to the 105th Running of the Indianapolis 500. Practice runs Tuesday through Friday for the “500,” with qualifications taking place Saturday and Sunday. The entry list features 35 drivers vying for 33 spots in the May 30th race. Rinus (REE-nus) VeeKay became the youngest winner of an IndyCar race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with his victory Saturday. The 20-year-old qualified fourth for last year’s Indy 500 before finishing 20th. Tomorrow oval veterans will be able to practice from 10 a.m. until noon, and then rookie orientation and refresher practice will take place until 2 p.m. After an hour break, the track will be open for practice for all 35 drivers from 3 until 6.
The Indiana men’s soccer team plays for the national championship Monday night against Marshall. The Hoosiers are going for their ninth national title after defeating Pittsburgh 1-0 Friday night, while Marshall beat North Carolina 1-0 to advance to the program’s first-ever national championship match.
Kyle Hendricks took a shutout into the ninth and the Chicago Cubs beat the Detroit Tigers 5-1. The Reds overcame a 6-1 deficit with four runs in the eighth and two in the top of the ninth to beat the Colorado Rockies 7-6. Cincinnati’s two runs in the ninth came on a passed ball and a wild pitch. The Seattle Mariners held off the Cleveland Indians 3-2, and the San Diego Padres beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3.
