State senate votes on wetland bill

The State Senate voted Monday on a bill which would allow farmers and property developers to drain up to 80% of the state’s remaining wetlands. The bill, by Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charleston) would allow the removal of all state regulations on wetlands that are not subject to federal oversight. The measure also terminates all pending administrative and legal actions against individuals who violated the wetlands regulations while they were in place. It goes to the House next.
