The Washington Hatchets suffered a tough loss on the road last night at Evansville Bosse 66-61. The five Hatchet starters all posted double digits and played very well all night against the 4th ranked Bulldogs. Washington will be at home Saturday with a make-up game against top ranked Barr Reeve at the Hatchet House. Tip off is set for 7:30pm.
The opening round of the Old National Bank Classic begins today at North Daviess High School. The school has announced that 440 tickets will be sold at the door before each game. Max capacity will be 600 fans. Gates open one hour before game time. In the opening game, Shoals will play Southridge at 11am. Loogootee meets Rushville in game two. The third game will pit Rock Creek Academy against Brownstown Central, and tonight’s final game will have South Knox facing the host North Daviess Cougars. The tournament will continue Friday and Saturday.
Forest Park is hosting a big tournament today. Vincennes Lincoln will play NE Dubois at 10am, North Knox will play Borden at noon.
Today, the Barr Reeve Lady Vikings travel to Waldron to compete at the Holiday Classic. Barr Reeve meets Blackford at 11am this morning with live coverage starting at 10:45am on the General 95.9fm / 101.3fm / AM 1580.

Purdue basketball takes on 14th ranked Rutgers Wednesday night in New Jersey. The Boilermakers are 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten after a nail biting win over Maryland on Christmas Day. The Scarlet Knights are 6-1 and are coming off an 80-68 loss at Ohio State. The Boilers and Scarlet Knights tip off from Rutgers at 7 p.m.
The Chicago Cubs are closing in a deal to trade starting pitcher Yu Darvish to the San Diego Padres, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers and Jeff Passan. Chicago is expected to acquire right handed pitcher Zach Davies along with four prospects. The Cubs have embarked on cost saving measures this offseason. Chicago won the NL Central, but was swept out of the wildcard round by the Miami Marlins.
