Wilma (Butch) Stafford Courtney, Washington, died of COVID-19 on October 26, 2020. Butch was born on February 14 1928 to Anna and Ralph Stafford and raised in Washington. She graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and later married the late Harold Rex Courtney of Elnora where they resided throughout much of their marriage.
She is survived by her only child, Jeanne (Jeff) Fox of Washington. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Joshua (Nela) Hudson of Ft. Myers, FL, Adam (Nikki) Hudson of Noblesville, Adair (Steve) Hedrick of Washington, Garrett Fox of Ft. Wayne, and six great-grandchildren, Kolten Hedrick (age 8), Brant Hedrick (age 7), Callaway and Kittery Hudson (ages 6), Nora Hedrick (age 4), and Darius Hudson-Rivera (age 3).
In addition to her parents and spouse, preceding her in death were her sisters Dorothy (Kenneth) Smith, Betty (Kenneth) McClellan and her brother Lynn (Diana) Stafford.
Butch was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elnora. She was active in the community by being the leader of Girl Scouts of America, and coaching a girls soft ball team. Later, she worked 37 years in the pro shop at Eagle View Golf Course in Crane. Along with being an avid golfer, she enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching hummingbirds, and mushroom hunting. Giving hugs was her specialty, as family, along with her cat, Sophie, were her number one priority.
Visitation and services will be held at Gill Funeral Home on Friday, October 30, 2020 but due to the threat of (Covid-19) will be private. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery.
