Fire crews battle field fires into early Thursday morning

Fire crews battled two massive field fires early into Thursday morning. Both fire struck Daviess County yesterday afternoon. One was reported at 3pm near Harbstriet Hill and another was reported about an hour later near US 231 and County Road 1650 North. Gary Allison with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department shared some of the details with us…

According to the Washington Times Herald the first fire started as a result of a hot bearing on a combine that began spitting fire. About half a dozen fire departments were on the scene battling the flames until about 12:15 this morning. Last reported, there were about 300 acres burned. Another field fire was also reported in Knox County yesterday near the North Knox Area. Most of southern Indiana is experiencing unusual dry conditions and many counties have been under a burn ban for some time.
