Governor Eric Holcomb’s Stay at Home order (Executive Order 20-
22) remains in effect through at least May 1st President Trump has unveiled his plan (https://www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica) for reopening the nation, however, further directives on reopening need to come from the Governor’s office. Once those orders are announced, the Knox County Health Department and the Knox County Emergency Operations Center Task Force will announce when and how Knox County businesses and public areas can reopen.
“I want to reopen our county just a soon as it is safely possible,” said Dr. Alan Stewart, Knox
County Health Officer. “We are working to give local businesses guidelines on how to reopen
and keep them safe while getting our local economy back on its feet.”
Several key factors will be considered as a plan is developed for Knox County, including, but not
limited to, types of businesses, prevention protocols ready to be put in to practice, and a plan
for employee and customer safety.
Social Distancing will be a major key as we move forward, as well as good hygiene, to prevent a
resurgence of the virus. If a surge of COVID-19 takes place, the community will have to be
prepared for a possible second shutdown.
The Knox County Health Department and EMA Task Force consists of local government and
Good Samaritan Hospital officials, first responders, as well as the Knox County Chamber of
Commerce and the Vincennes/Knox County Visitors and Tourism Bureau.
For now, Governor Holcomb’s stay at home order stands and you must do your part to comply
so we get the chance to move forward.
Meanwhile, no new cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in Knox County. Out of the 20
diagnosed cases, only five remain in quarantine at their homes. Three patients are expected to
be released this week, with the other two patients on track at this time to be released next
week.
