Uncommon situations make for unique circumstances and Thursday night’s meeting of the Washington School Board was not an exception.Being mindful of the CDC’s recommendation to avoid groups larger than 10 and trying to accommodate the suggestions for social distancing, the Washington Board met via conference phone call with Board President Randy Bouchie and Superintendent Dr. Danial Roach at the Board Room in the corporations central office and the other board members, teacher representatives, and reporters for the Times-Herald and WAMW taking part in the joint phone conversation.Dr. Roach told the Board that food distribution to students will continue next week at the Jr. High and Lena Dunn. Access to the Jr. High distribution point will be from Walnut Street while the access to Lena Dunn will be off Wykoff Lane. Dr. Roach reminded everyone that this is a program to feed the students and not adults…students must be present when the food is picked up.The board also addressed several issues dealing with the current situation. They approved expanding the number of e-learning days, added five extra days for the secretarial staff, and discussed the pay of non-certified staff while students were not in attendance. Dr Roach reported that the custodial staff is continuing to work and will be working on some projects originally scheduled for the summer. Teachers are continuing to provide on-line e-learning for the students. Board President Randy Bouchie said that he was “very proud of our staff”.

The Board also accepted the offer from a local farmer and some area businesses of 10 acres for the use of the FFA. Dr. Roach called this a great opportunity for mentor ship and a partnership. Final approval is pending a memorandum of understanding. The Board also discussed the exchange of property by the Washington Community Schools and the Daviess County Economic Development Foundation.
