Daviess County prepared

“We are very prepared for this. This is what we train for and this is what we do well.”  That’s the comment from Daviess County Health Nurse Kathy Sullender to the   Washington Times Herald commented on Coronavirus response.
The first case has been confirmed in Indiana as a man who recently traveled to Boston where others have the virus began feeling ill.  He called health officials in Marion County and was being held in isolation.  Communication between local and state officials continues as the situation develops in the state  Sullender says Daviess County has preparedness plans in place for almost any pandemic and the state health department is on top of this and has given the county supplies and equipment for what would need to be done.
One thing the local health department is working to solve according to the WTH  making sure the Amish, Hispanic and Haitian residents of Daviess County are aware of all the information on preventative measures and travel advisories.  Hospital CEO Tracey Conroy says the Amish participate in mission trips and they are working to solve that worry.  Thee language barrier is also being addressed as information has been translated into Spanish and Creole and distributed in schools.
Sullender says if anyone feels they may have been exposed to the virus to call before just showing up at a clinic, hospital or doctor’s office.  Call so that health providers can prepare and limit exposure to others.
