Indiana State Police will be stepping up their patrols today. The Operation Drive Sober or get Pulled Over campaign runs through March 22nd. Two of the heaviest drinking events of the year take place through that time according to the ISP, that being St. Patrick’s Day, and the NCAA Basketball Tourney.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says in March of last year there were 433 alcohol related crashes in the state. 205 people were injured and five were killed. 15% or 65 of those crashes occurred on the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday weekend alone along with 1 of those 5 fatalities.
Remember that before a celebration begins to plan a safe way home, use a designated driver or public transporation of some type if you plan to drink, remember that buzzed driving is drunk driving. If you see suspected drunk drivers then call 911.
