The Rotary Club of Washington (IN), had a busy November & December. The club met seven times during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays.
On November 6th, the Rotary Club of Washington had the great opportunity to hear from our Daviess Co. Prosecutor, Dan Murrie and officers from the City of Washington, Daviess County Sheriff, & Indiana State Police. Dan highlighted the important work that the prosecutor’s office, sheriff’s department, state police, and the city of Washington police are doing to keep our citizens safe. He noted that the drug problem in Daviess County is no different than the drug problem in surrounding counties. The difference is that our law enforcement is so good that we apprehend 2x as many cases as surrounding counties do. Dan said that they are seeing a downward trend in the opioid epidemic in Daviess County. We are grateful to Dan and all the law-enforcement individuals who suffer and protect our citizens on a daily basis!
On November 13th, we had the opportunity to hear a Diabetes success story today from Rotarian Mary Smith and Endocrinologists from Daviess Community Hospital Dr. Vasudev Lohano, and Alicia Fields, NP. They all shared the great diabetes care that is available here locally. The DCH Endocrinologists are located in the new Lohano, Center for Advanced Medicine. Many thanks for our speakers for sharing their success stories and thanks to DCH for offering this important service to our community.
On November 20th, we welcomed our friends from Red Door & DSI. Red Door serves 52 counties. Locally, in Daviess County they welcomed their first community cooking class where over 20 community members took part.
Rachel Headley, who oversees education & enrichment for Red Door shared some new initiatives that they are working on. She noted they have 200 adults in programs with multiple activities that participants can choose from. They are building a curriculum for learning.
Our Rotary Club is proud supporter of Red Door having previously donated time and resources to build a yoga room & kitchen.
On December 4th, We had the pleasure of welcoming our presenter and Rotarian, Dr. Frank Bowling of Bowling Chiropractic Center, LLC Dr. Bowling shared with us his most recent research interest which is Postural Assessment & Balance.
He highlighted how most individuals spend time in a forward flexed position throughout the day. He referenced a study he read where individual who lose 3cm height have a decreased life expectancy of 4.5 years and a contributing factor is the forward flexed position. He noted Posture Assessment is not just going to the gym and exercising but a host of other interventions. For more information reach out to Dr. Bowling at bowlingchiropractic.com Thanks to Dr. Bowling showing us some postural exercises that we can do at home!
On December 11th, we had the great opportunity to hear from Daviess Community Hospital Chief Operating Officer, Keith Miller and Director of EMS Teddy Cline during our weekly Rotary meeting today. They shared with our club how the EMS service came to be at DCH and the success they have had since starting the service on July 15. Year to date they have had over 2000 EMS runs as they take care of our citizens. They’ve also been active in our community working area football games, the Turkey Trot, at the motorsports complex and many other of events throughout the county. Our Rotarians received a tour of one of the new ambulances that DCH uses. Many thanks to DCH for starting this service and for all the great healthcare they provide to our citizens.
