(NETWORK INDIANA)   The best thing for Hoosiers farmers at this very moment is for Congress to pass the USMCA trade agreement, says Vice-President Mike Pence.

Pence was back in Indiana Wednesday to speak to veterans at the American Legion Convention. After his speech he sat down for a one-on-one interview with WIBC’s Tony Katz. Pence was asked when Hoosier farmers can start reaping the benefits of economic talk from Washington.

“The best thing we can do for the Hoosier farmer, the Hoosier manufacturer is for Congress to pass the USMCA,” Pence said. “If (Speaker Nancy Pelosi) puts it on the floor, it’ll pass.”

Pence added that passing the USMCA will strengthen President Trump’s hand when it comes to economic and trade negotiations with the European Union, the United Kingdom after Brexit, and with China.

Another thing he said will help farmers, and all Americans, is winning the 2020 presidential election.

“It’s not going to be enough for us to win the next election, we need to win the next generation,” said Pence, who continued that he never thought he’d live to see socialism gain such a foothold among many Americans.

With talk of a recession billowing from the woodwork both in Washington and on Wall Street, Pence doubled down on his assertion that the economy is doing better than ever before.

“Unemployment is at a record low, wages, especially for blue collar working Americans, are rising faster than ever before,” he said. “The economy is strong. The only risk to the economy is if anyone of those 20 some-odd Democrats that are running for president win the election.”

Pence said the plan is to keep cutting taxes and regulations heading into next year. He also touched on whether or not President Trump stern approach to foreign policy is leaving the US with fewer friends on the world stage.

He said President Trump’s non-apologetic approach, which he said is a contrast to the previous administration, has other world leaders “respecting and appreciating” renewed American leadership.
