Daviess County First Responders have been busy this week training for Active Shooter Situations. Their training in techniques known as “Stop the Bleed” and the implementation of a Rescue Task Force to get emergency medical teams to victims as quickly as possible, led to a full scale exercise at Veale Elementary School this week. The exercise involved different scenarios with multiple victims which were portrayed by Washington High School ROTC and Band students. Camp Illiana was used as a staging area in the exercise.
The training helped the teams learn strengths and weaknesses to allow for improvements in a controlled environment.
Participating in the training were Washington Police, The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, Daviess Community Hospital EMS, Daviess County Emergency Management and the Washington, Washington Township, Southeast, Veale and Cannelburg Fire Departments.
