The Indiana Department of Transportation held a ribbon cutting Wednesday for the new Black River Welcome Center along eastbound I-64 in Posey County. Located near mile marker 7, the facility features exhibits highlighting President Abraham Lincoln’s Indiana roots, as well as information on former presidents Benjamin Harrison and William Henry Harrison. Additional displays showcase southern Indiana’s history and culture. The welcome center also includes a playground, dog park, adult recreation area, and expanded truck parking with 75 spaces. State officials say the project is part of a larger plan to modernize rest areas and increase parking capacity across Indiana. Construction began in 2023, and the new welcome center is now open to the public.
