State Senator Eric Bassler of Washington recently welcomed several local students to the Indiana Statehouse to serve as Senate pages. Students participating in the program included Nick Bassler, Everett Hagg, and Maxwell Voges of Washington Catholic Schools; Elena Lyon of Loogootee Middle School; William Lyon of Loogootee High School; Luke Underwood of Barr-Reeve Community Schools; and Miriam Spillman of Solsberry, who is homeschooled. Also serving as pages were Naomi Wade, River Wade, and Willow Wade of Linton, who are homeschooled. During their visit, the students toured the Statehouse, observed Senate debate from the chamber floor, and met with lawmakers while learning more about how Indiana’s state government operates. Bassler says the page program provides students with a valuable opportunity to get involved in the legislative process and better understand how state government works.
