Indiana University is partnering with 15 rural organizations across the state as part of its 2026 Rural Placemaking Studio, a program focused on improving communities through public art and creative design projects. The initiative connects IU students and faculty with rural communities to help design projects such as public art installations, signage, trail improvements, and downtown enhancements. Among the communities participating this year is Loogootee, where the project will focus on creating a kiosk and window displays to support the Mesker Walking Tour and highlight the Loogootee Commercial Historic District. Heart of Jasper in Dubois County: Wayfinding and welcome signage will guide visitors and highlight Jasper’s downtown attractions. The program, launched in 2024, is a collaboration between the IU ServeDesign Center and the IU Center for Rural Engagement.
