North Daviess Community Schools is gearing up for a busy few weeks with events for students and families across the district. Kindergarten Roundup is scheduled for Friday, March 13, at North Daviess Elementary. Parents of children who will be five years old by August 1 are encouraged to call 812-636-8000, extension 2000 or 2001, to schedule a 45-minute appointment. During the visit, students will complete a kindergarten readiness screening while parents receive information about the upcoming school year and registration process. School officials say the district continues to focus heavily on early literacy, with K–3 teachers trained in the science of reading and most also trained in the Orton-Gillingham phonics program. Daily reading interventions are provided for students who need additional support. Several fundraising and community events are also planned. The Cougar baseball team will host a pancake breakfast this Saturday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. in the high school cafeteria, while the Cougar softball team will hold a mattress sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the auxiliary gym next Saturday, February 28th. On Sunday, February 22, the documentary highlighting the 2022 state championship team will be shown in the school auditorium at 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Bingo for Books, a free Title I family event for grades K–6, is set for Thursday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. More information on all events can be found on the North Daviess Community Schools Facebook pages.
