Arc on Utility Pole Sparks Widespread Power Outage in Washington Area on Saturday

A widespread power outage was reported Saturday afternoon in the Washington area after residents heard what was described as a loud electrical “arc” or boom. According to dispatch logs, the initial call came in around 4:37 p.m. from the 100 block of South 200 West, where a caller reported hearing a loud arcing sound and seeing a utility pole sparking near the Washington Wastewater facility. Throughout the afternoon, numerous additional outages were reported across the area, including along West Old U.S. 50, State Road 57, North 75 East, East 200 North, Cindy Kay Drive, and surrounding neighborhoods. Several businesses, including retail stores and restaurants, also reported losing power. The Washington Water Department reported that while the facility still had electricity, its wells were temporarily out of service. Some residents also reported hearing transformers blow. Utility crews were notified and responded to the scene. Shortly after 10:30 p.m., dispatch advised that the issue had been resolved and power was restored.
