The weather still tops everyone’s minds today. Gusty winds have caused some drifting snow in roadways, especially in the rural areas. While some of the snow melted from direct sunlight yesterday, it did refreeze last night. Watch for black ice and slick spots as you travel to your destination today. A cold weather advisory continues today. The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
The Washington Street Department has announced they will be picking up the Wednesday trash route and working on the Monday and Tuesday routes for the remainder of the week. Please have your trash out by 7:00 AM; times will VARY. They ask for patience, as the men will be walking in very deep snow for a large portion of the routes, and with the extreme temperatures, it will not be a fast or easy task. Also, much of the trash will be frozen in the cans or buried in the snow and unable to be picked up. They hope to be back on our normal schedule next week.
Once again all area schools will be closed for the day today. Please check with your individual school to see if it is an e-learning day or a true snow day.
Vincennes University classes will be back in session today.
The Daviess County Commissioners, along with Martin and Knox Counties, have lowered the travel level back to Orange Watch Level Essential Travel to and from work. Roads will continue to be evaluated for any additional changes.
Senior and Family Services will again be closed for the day today, and there will be no Meals on Wheels. They are planning to deliver as many meals as they can on Friday.
