ISP Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Posey County

Indiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon on State Road 69 north of Copperline Road in Posey County. According to authorities, the Posey County Sheriff’s Office had received information that a man with two active felony warrants was a passenger in a tractor trailer traveling on SR 69. At approximately 2:21 p.m., a trooper located the vehicle and followed it until two Posey County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to assist. Officers conducted what was described as a high-risk traffic stop. The driver of the semi complied with commands and exited the vehicle. The passenger then exited while holding a handgun to his head. Investigators say information gathered at the scene indicated the man was suicidal. During the encounter, both deputies discharged their weapons, striking the man at least once. Officers immediately rendered aid and requested medical assistance, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured. Indiana State Police say the investigation remains active and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
