The Daviess County Emergency Management Agency is alerting residents to a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service for the weekend. The warning is in effect from noon Saturday through 7 p.m. Sunday, with forecasters calling for heavy snowfall totaling between 7 and 10 inches across much of central and southern Indiana, including Daviess County. Officials say the heaviest snow is expected late Saturday night through early Sunday afternoon, and travel conditions could become very difficult. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and, if they must be on the road, to carry emergency supplies such as food, water, and a flashlight. Updated road conditions are available by calling 511.

In addition, a Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Sunday. Forecasters warn that wind chills could drop as low as 10 below zero across the region. Officials say those temperatures increase the risk of frostbite and hypothermia if proper precautions are not taken. Residents are urged to use caution when outdoors and to wear appropriate cold-weather clothing, including hats and gloves. The extreme cold combined with the winter storm is expected to heighten safety concerns throughout the weekend.
