The Odon Town Council has appointed a new fire chief following recent unrest within the Odon Volunteer Fire Department, according to reporting by the Odon Journal. During a series of public meetings earlier this month, town officials and firefighters addressed concerns involving department bylaws, leadership disputes, and a lapse in required state certification that temporarily prevented the department from responding to medical calls. At a public meeting on Jan. 15, volunteer firefighter Griffin Major was selected to serve as the department’s new fire chief. Major told council members that restoring the department’s Basic Life Support non-transport certification was an urgent priority, noting that most calls handled by the department are medical in nature. The situation had led to resignations and heightened tensions within the department and the community. Town officials say the appointment of a new chief is intended to help restore order and ensure the department remains fully operational.
