Two Dead After Early Morning House Fire on East Anderson Road in Monroe County

Two people died in an early morning house fire Sunday on East Anderson Road, and the incident remains under investigation. Monroe County dispatch received multiple 911 calls around 2:40 a.m. reporting a house fire in the 3800 block of East Anderson Road in Monroe County. When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle had crashed into the home’s attached garage, which was actively burning. Two occupants were able to escape but suffered severe burn injuries and were later transferred to a hospital in Indianapolis. Two other occupants were found inside the home and later died from their injuries. Their identities will be released by the Monroe County Coroner’s Office. A person of interest believed to be connected to the fire was located about an hour later in a wooded area on the property. That individual also suffered burn injuries and was taken to an Indianapolis hospital. Charges are pending. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, and other agencies are continuing to investigate. Officials say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
