The Daviess County Council held its first meeting of 2026 and selected Tony Duncheon to serve as Council President for the new year.  Matt Meredith was selected as vice president.  All the council members complimented outgoing president Marilyn McCullough for her outstanding leadership and service to Daviess County over the past year.

In regular business, the Council approved amendments to the salary ordinance to reflect changes in the Community Corrections Department.  The Council also gave its approval of the EMS contract.

The Council also approved two additional appropriations: an additional $250,000 payment on the principal of the courthouse renovation bond and $40,000 received from Health First Indiana to fund a nurse practitioner for the Health Department.

The Council also received the Annual Administration Report for the Security Center from Sheriff Gary Allison.  Allison’s report showed the Sheriff’s Department responded to 5582 individual calls in 2025.  The report showed the Sheriff’s Department responding to 576 accidents resulting in 97 injuries and 6 fatalities.  Sheriff Allison reported that the Security Center booked a total of 821 individuals in 2025.  The average daily population of the jail was 162 individuals.  The report showed the Security Center served 173,786 meals to inmates in 2025.  The Sheriff also reported that 30 inmates were housed in the Community Corrections Work Release pods.  In addition, Sheriff Allison told the County Council that the Security Center’s Road Crew, sentenced inmates able to go outside the jail with a jail officer to work in the community, had put in nearly 2,400 hours of service. The list of places the Road Crew worked included several cemeteries, work for the cities of Odon and Washington, the Animal Shelter, the 4H Grounds, the Turkey Trot, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Day of Caring.
