Nuclear Energy Company Announces $4 Billion Investment in Indiana

indiana-3

A nuclear energy firm, First American Nuclear (FANCO), has announced plans to invest over $4 billion to establish its headquarters in Indianapolis and build a nuclear power plant and energy park somewhere in Indiana. According to Inside Indiana Business, Governor Mike Braun says the project could create around 5,000 high-paying jobs and position Indiana as a national leader in clean nuclear energy. The state currently has no operating nuclear power plants. FANCO says its proposed energy park will be the first in the U.S. to reprocess and reuse spent nuclear fuel, reducing long-term waste by up to 97%. Hiring is expected to begin immediately and continue over the next decade. The development will also include FANCO’s EAGL-1 Small Modular Reactor, designed to power about 1.5 million homes.
