Extending the bond on the coal mining activities across County Road 200 North was the main topic of discussion at Tuesday morning’s Daviess County Commissioners meeting. County Attorney Grant Swartzentruber told the Commissioners that the coal company had arranged for increased bonding capability. The Commissioners also discussed increasing the bond on CR 200 N by moving the bond from CR 350 N to CR 200 N. The bonds ensure that roads are returned to their original condition after mining is completed. Mining across CR 200 N gone beyond the time allowed by the original agreement, and the County has asked for an increased bond to assure the restoration of the road to its original condition once mining is completed.
In other business, the Commissioners agreed to an interlocal agreement with Martin County to formalize a long-standing mutual aid agreement between the Coroner’s offices in both counties. With the completion of the Courthouse renovation and the disposal of surplus items stored at the Economic Development Corporation’s hangar at the Daviess County Airport, the Commissioners voted to terminate the rental agreement with the DCEDC. The hangar will now be sold to the airport.
The Commissioners also approved a request from the Daviess County Health Department for a contractor with a mental health background to review the County’s policies and procedures regarding suicide and drug overdose prevention.
In other business, the Commissioners agreed to County EMS Director Scott Myers’ request to apply for a State grant to pay for a FEMA mandated update of the County’s multi-hazard mitigation plan. Also approved was a request from WCS to use the Annex parking lot for a Halloween Trunk or Treat.
