Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita issued a statement this morning following the execution of Benjamin Ritchie, who was convicted of murdering Beech Grove Police Officer William Toney on September 29, 2000. “Justice was served,” Rokita said, adding that the execution honors Officer Toney’s sacrifice and reaffirms the state’s commitment to protecting law enforcement and upholding the rule of law. The Indiana Supreme Court had previously set the execution date, and the sentence was carried out.
