
John Andrew Abrams, 61, of Elnora, Indiana, passed from this life with his loving family by his side, on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born on September 5, 1963 in Epsom, Indiana to Stanley ‘Lee’ and Wanda Lou (Kinnaman) Abrams. John married the love of his life, Anita (Cox) Abrams, on October 14th, 1983.
John joined the Indiana National Guard after graduating from North Daviess High School, Class of 1981. He worked as a welder at Basiloid from 1983 until February of 2025. John was also a volunteer fire fighter/ first responder on the Elnora/ Elmore Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years. In his younger days, he and his older brother raced stock cars and various demolition derbies around the area. He enjoyed going to Tri-State Speedway to watch the races on Saturday nights and watching the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football. He was lovingly called Pops, Old Man, and his personal favorite, Papaw or Papo!
Family left to cherish the memory of John include: his wife, Anita; daughter, Kelly (Bill) Stroud of Schnellville, IN; son, Harvey (Tia) Abrams of Loogootee, IN; granddaughters, Kara Stroud, Maddie Abrams and Posie Abrams; grandson, Oliver Abrams; his mother, Wanda Lou Abrams of Elnora; siblings, Judy (Chuck) Stedman and Carol (Tim) Hastings, both of Elnora, IN, TJ Abrams of Jasper, IN, Nathan (Karen) Abrams of Bloomfield, IN, Joy (John) Brock of Crane Village, IN and Wendy Cleavenger. Many nieces, nephews and many, many cousins also survive.
John was preceded in death by: his oldest granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth Stroud; his father, Stanley ‘Lee’ Abrams; brother, Richard Abrams and grandparents.
John’s family has chosen cremation. A Celebration of Life is planned for John on Saturday, May 17th, 2025 at the Elnora/ Elmore Township Fire Department from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
