State Auditor visits Washington

Indiana State Auditor Tera Klutz spoke to the members of Washington’s Rotary Club Wednesday.    Klutz is the first CPA to serve as the state’s chief financial officer.
A native of Ft. Wayne, Klutz was appointed as State Auditor by Gov. Holcomb in 2017.   She filled the vacancy created when Suzanne Crouch resigned to become Lt. Governor.    Klutz said as Auditor, she is responsible for paying the state’s employees and writing checks to the state’s vendors.
The Auditor noted that Indiana’s Treasurer receives, deposits, and invests the state’s funds, but only the Auditor can write the checks.   Klutz also discussed how the State is using the state’s $300 million surplus to pay cash for planned projects and save money which would have been spent for interest on bonds.  She says that will save $100 million over 25 years.
At the end of her talk, Klutz encouraged the local Rotarians, as civic minded citizens, to take part in local government.
