A 16-year-old student at Eastern Greene High School is dead following a car accident early Sunday morning.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office the accident happened in the area of South State Road 45, about one-half mile south of Interstate 69.
Deputies said the teen left the east side of the roadway before crashing. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
In a press release, Eastern Greene Schools announced Jed Cummings, an Eastern Greene High School student and athlete, was killed in the crash.
Eastern Greene High School said counselors, staff, and community volunteers were available to students. A prayer circle at the football field was scheduled for Monday morning.
