Pike County residents will have an opportunity to comment on a proposed local income tax increase and new vehicle taxes during a public hearing next month. According to a legal notice published in The Press-Dispatch, the Pike County Council will hold a public hearing on August 18 at 8:30 a.m. at the Pike County Courthouse Auditorium in Petersburg. The proposal would establish both a local wheel tax and vehicle excise surtax. County officials say the additional revenue would be used for public safety, economic development, and infrastructure improvements, including road and bridge projects. If approved, the taxes would take effect January 1, 2027.
