The Loogootee is launching a $14,000 crowdfunding campaign to help complete renovations at the Loogootee Senior Center, with donations eligible to be matched dollar-for-dollar through a state partnership program if the goal is reached by July 12. City officials say the center, located in the City Annex on Northwest 1st Street, recently underwent major upgrades through the “Community Roots” project, funded by nearly $31,000 in grants and community support. Improvements included a new entrance, windows, flooring and other updates aimed at revitalizing the center for area seniors. Since reopening earlier this year, officials say the center has become a busy gathering place once again, hosting exercise classes, meals, bingo, card games and community programs throughout the week. The new fundraising effort will focus on renovating the remaining back portion of the building, including new flooring, handicap-accessible entrances, updated windows and ceiling repairs. Donations will be accepted online through Patronicity or by check through the City of Loogootee.
