An Illinois man known as the “Truck Stop Serial Killer” will remain convicted in the murder of an Indianapolis woman after the Indiana Court of Appeals upheld his case. The court on March 12 affirmed the murder conviction of Bruce Mendenhall in the death of Carma Purpura. Mendenhall had argued that there was not enough evidence to prove the crime occurred in Indiana and challenged evidence obtained during a search of his semi-truck, but the court rejected those claims. Mendenhall was previously convicted in Tennessee for the deaths of two other women and is serving life sentences. Authorities say he is suspected in additional killings across multiple states.
