A 25-year-old cold case involving a bank robbery and home invasion in Ferdinand has now been solved, according to Indiana State Police. The case dates back to September 1, 2000, when an armed suspect robbed Holland National Bank after earlier kidnapping a mother and child from their home, restraining them, and stealing their vehicle to use in the robbery. During the incident, investigators collected a blood sample believed to belong to the suspect. In 2024, the case was reopened by the Indiana State Police Cold Case Unit. Using advanced DNA testing and genetic genealogy, investigators were able to narrow the suspect pool to three brothers with ties to the area. Two of the individuals were deceased, and the third was ruled out through DNA testing. Authorities say the investigation ultimately identified one of the deceased brothers as the suspect, bringing the case to a close. Officials say the resolution highlights advancements in forensic technology and provides long-awaited answers for the victims and community. No names were released.
