According to reports from Winslow Town Board members on social media the remains of the historic Palace Lodge building in Winslow will be razed.. The building partially collapsed in mid-November and the debris has impacted traffic on State Road 61 through Winslow. The town officials say the town will pay for the work and bill the owner. The town will not take ownership of the property but will place a lein against the property to recover costs of the work. While there are no plans to demolish other buildings, the Winslow Town Board members say that other structural failures are possible once the demolition work begins. Once the building is pushed in, the area will be surrounded by a chain link fence. The Palace Lodge was built in 1892 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
