Police Safely Resolve Armed Incident at Eastside Park

Officers responded Tuesday evening to a report of a possibly suicidal man with a firearm at Eastside Park in Washington. According to the Washington Police Department, Central Dispatch received the call around 6:35 p.m. Officers located the man inside a vehicle but were initially unable to make direct contact. Dispatchers later reached him by phone, though he refused to exit the vehicle. The park was evacuated and the surrounding area secured as additional units from Washington Police, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Washington City Fire, and DCH EMS responded. After approximately three hours, the man agreed to discard the firearm and exit the vehicle. He was then evaluated by EMS. Police thanked assisting agencies for their help in safely resolving the situation.
