Martin County Community Foundation continues to make a major impact across the county, awarding nearly $200,000 in grants during the final two quarters of 2025. Director Curt Johnson said the foundation distributed $100,000 in the third quarter and $92,000 in the fourth quarter. Major grants included funding for the Martin County Council on Aging to improve facilities in Shoals and support for Loogootee School Corporation projects, including upgrades to the girls softball field. Additional funding benefited parks, historical organizations, and other local nonprofits. The foundation offers four grant cycles each year, with the next deadline set for April 30. Nonprofits can apply online through the foundation’s website. Johnson also announced new matching opportunities, including a one-to-one match for designated and scholarship funds, up to $5,000 per fund, and an ongoing two-to-one match for unrestricted funds. After nearly 11 years of service, Johnson is preparing to retire in the coming months as the foundation begins the search for his successor.
