Discover Downtown Washington welcomed a visit yesterday from representatives of the Indiana Main Street as part of a three-year effort to earn official accreditation through the program. Director Brandy Weiland and board members say the visit is the culmination of years of planning, documentation, and community involvement. If approved, the accreditation would open the door to additional grant opportunities, training resources, and statewide networking aimed at strengthening downtown Washington. Throughout the day yesterday, state officials met with several focus groups made up of board members, business owners, and community partners to review how the organization meets key program standards. Leaders say the process has already helped strengthen collaboration among downtown businesses and increased interest from new and existing businesses looking to locate downtown. A final decision from the state is expected in the coming days.
